Les Grandes Tables du 104

Le 104, the vast cultural centre housed in a former funeral parlour in the East of Paris, is now home to not one, but two great places to eat. We blogged about the fabulous Café Caché last year which has since become one of our favourite places to have lunch, and last week we sampled the new eatery, Les Grandes Tables, headed up by michelin starred chef Fabrice Biasiolo. The idea behind Les Grandes Tables is to mix the ordinary with the extraodinary, by taking inspiration from street food from around the globe whilst using fresh, local, seasonal produce. What's more, the focus is on fish and meat form renewable sources, and organic food and natural wines. The chef whips up the daily specials at one of the little mobile street-vendor style kitchens dotted around the edge of the restaurant space. On our visit the lunch time fixed-price menu featured a choice of Wok Fried Veal with New Potatoes or Yellow Place and Mullet Tempura with Wok Fried Shitake Mushrooms with Parsley. For pudding, the choice was between the delicious Lemon Syrup and Vodka Cheesecake or the healthy option of Pineapple Tartare with Fromage Blanc flavoured with Curry. For the main plus pudding option, the bill comes in at a very reasonable €14 and wine by the glass starts at just €2.50. The decor is minimal and deconstructed with flourescent strip lighting, lots of alumunim and bare wood, and shabby-chic flaking plastered walls.  Seating is, as the name of the restaurant might suggest, at rather large communual tables which adds to the relaxed, casual ambience of the place. Les Grandes Tables is just another good reason to go to Le 104. The only trouble is choosing whether to eat there or at Le Café Caché....

  1. So you finally tried "les grandes tables"!! Still hadn't the chance to so, nor the café caché but something tells me I will try the café caché first ;-)

  2. Hi Celine. Thanks for stopping by and posting a comment.
Yes! I managed to go to 104 and not default to Le Cafe Cache for once! Definitely try them both, but something tells me you'll try cafe cache first, too :)
