"Twinkles" - Miss Van Exhibition at Galerie Magda Danysz

Miss Van, the graffiti artist hailing from Toulouse who is now famous worldwide, is back for her first solo show in her homeland in three years with a new series of works at the Galerie Magda Danysz

As ever, the focus is on women, and that coquettish signature Miss Van look of bee-stung lipped and luscious-lashed heroines is ever present, but these works also have a nostalgic quality with compositions, colours and ambiances inspired more by old masters than the street art from whence the artist came. Instead of the bright palette we are used to in Miss Van's work, here there are muted tones and an abundance of black adding a melancholy tone which runs through this collection. A dark atmosphere pervades from the circus-like subject matter of women with clown-esque make up holding up rings of fire, whips and performing animals.

Another great success for the super talented Miss Van, and yet another example of street art conquering the established art world - a movement that has marked recent years of contemporary art and looks set to continue.
